Looks a very tidy example Jeremy and brings back many great memories of my 9 years spent on one of those ...wish I could afford to buy it !

Where is this machine ?

Can anyone help.. I am trying to find out a name and contact phone number for the chap who owns the Butser Hill Limeworks Pit nr Petersfield.

A team here in the South West are keen to purchase the old Hymac 690 that is lying in the pit for a restoration project. But so far we have had no joy in finding a phone number.

Please help us save this rare classic ;-)

Cheers

Nick
hi Nick any luck on the hymac,i was there tying to buy the old scammell routeman a few years back then the kids set fire to it. the hymac is straight as a die.apparently the man who owns it isn`t very friendly i couldn`t find any details on him. it would be a hard place to get the machine out off :dizzy:

Bill,

You are correct the guy who owns that machine is not very friendly at all! The team gave up on that idea and bought an old Cat D2 instead.. a real shame as it would have been great to save the old Hymac. :?

Jeremy Rowland wrote:Hi Rob,

Well the only machine that was between the 590 and the 880 and 890 was the 690 and there were only 64 of these produced by Hymac.
They weighed in at 19.6 tons compared to the 890 at 22.5 tons as I have said outwardly the 690 resembled the 890.
Whilst the 590/590C was larger than the 580C the 590 range tipped the scales at 15 tons for the 590 and 16 tons for the 590C. :ugeek:

Jeremy
I drove 690 for three years and loved it was great digger only failing was the "hamworthy "track final drives we spent 15 months in river around Newbridge/Crumlin/and Llanhilleth south wales the company (BEECHWOOD from Llandeilo had two of them and I am surprised to read only 64 were produced, but it was great digger, on deep sewer work it was shit hot with two speed hoist on main boom. I parted with the machine in hot summer of 76 when the changed machine I drove for FORD H57 CK, derived from Reicher machine, a proper bag of shit but very powerful for its day, wished I had my old hymac back half and hour after sitting in this heap of shit, the other 690 was changed for Ford H47 which I never drove but mate of mine did and he loved it
im looking for 690 to do up, but looks like im going to struggle if only 64 ever made
I drove Hymac 880 for while that impressed me greatly

Graham I know of two 690 machines that survive; one is included somewhere in this thread and its the machine that survives down south at the former Bunkerhill limestone mine, the other belongs to Paul McGuigan who is planning to restore it.

A photo taken by a mate of mine a few days ago-he asked what model it is and whether it would be factory built or converted-over to you experts please.
