There was a 580D for sale not too far from where I live, its the best example I have ever seen and has been very well looked after.I am not joking when I say its in nearly new condition. Will be down there in two weeks time so I will take some photos.

Hi Roly,

Thanks for posting your old Hymac pics!!

The 580D brought back a lot of memories for me, I operated one of those for nearly ten years for Southampton based company Swanwick Construction but sadly I only have one poor photo of it :dizzy: It was great for grading with and my boss used to get me grading base tarmac and in some cases even topping :o

Great old memories !!

Hi Lewis,

Pics please, any old Hymac pics, yeh ;)

Here is a pic of the Hymac 880 that I was lucky enough to operate as a young lad at a local scrapyard.
I had just parked her up when I took this pic, sorry it aint brilliant but it was taken with an old 120 camera and Ive lost the negative, thats assuming I could find somewhere to still develope such pics.
I have renovated this pic using Paintshop pro, best I can anyways.
This machine used to carry the registration number CNX198J :ugeek:
Anorak alert
Lets just say I had the time of me life as a kid using the machines in that yard.

Hi IBH,

The operating weight of the 880 is 22.6 tons, I think the HSE would of had a field day today if a school kid was let loose in one, but I was and had the time of me life. :D
Im going to post a few more pics for people to enjoy starting with this 580C which lives on the Midland Railway Centre up at Butterly and is used to load coal onto the preserved steam locos.

Big Hi to all,

Here is a rather "beat up" Hymac 596 that I came across whilst trawling for car spares at what was a large collective of car breakers yards affectionately known locally as "the jungle"

This 596 has a 580C type boom and dipper, I do have quite a few more pics of this machine lets just say she had seen better days.

I assume she has been cut for scrap along with quite an interesting collection of machines when the yard was recently closed down by the local council  surprise surprise.

Heres an interesting machine for you, I do appologise for the poor quality of the pic but once again it was a pic I took around 1976/77 This is one of four 580C machines that were operated by this establishment, the said company was Charles Penn scrap metal merchants (I could spin you some yarns) ;) I have on occasion operated this machine and have not seen another one like it since, it is a Hymac 580c but has a cast pad undercarriage I recently talked with Mr Tony Flint who is a time served Hymac fitter and he tells me that Hymac did produce a few 580cs with this type of undercarriage, most of them ended up in Ireland.
