Hi Jeremy,
It was indeed an elevating cab. I've seen nothing quite like it before.
Looked like an aftermarket mod. to me.
Looks as if you could catch the cab with the bucket if it's extended right forward as in the pic. and the arm pulled right in.

Probably would do Fred if it is a 'home made jobbie' which it certainly looks like.
