I fire at min a whole cartridge into the machine per greasing session and buy it by the box as I use it on other machines also.
I have 2 grease guns ready to go , one flexy hose I can leave in the cab toolbox, and a workshop one with a rigid tube that's air powered. And the tool magpie in me is considering getting a Ryobi battery powered one as trailing a air hose round a machine can be a bit of a pain at times...

Just ordered 14 x 400g cartridges online, worked out about £3.30 each. I'm just wondering if I should pick up some spare grease nipples before I go in for a big grease session at the weekend. What are the chances that none of them are damaged?

Are the grease nipples on the 3c3 1/8" BSP or M10 x 1.5mm? Or something completely different and random?

they are bsp, 1/8 or 1/4 irrc eg jcb part number 1450/0002 used all over the back acter and listed in the 3c back acter parts book JCB 2 and 3 series backacter section only is a 1/8 bsp , https://www.ebay.com/itm/263967545359?
I bought a cheap assortment box of different bsp nipples in straight and angled etc config, and am slowly using them up. If they are damaged or ooze out when I grease them, I just change them, life's too short to mess about fighting them or trying to push the gun on at different angles.

You can get grease drum pumps on a trolley that take a whole bucket of grease at once and wheel it about, secondhand I usually see them quite cheap but I imagine they suffer with the pain of trying to wheel them into all the odd awkward corners on agri machinery. I'm going to give the battery powered ryobi one a test when it arrives from the US (I dont think its released by ryobi europe yet) as I use their one+ system elsewhere already.

I am still using a bucket gun that I used helping my late Father in the 60s.it is a bit heavy so I pump into a hand held for those awkward or clambering jobs.

22 nipples done, 11 to go, but I will need to move things around to get to them. Does that sound right, 33 nipples in total?

I have no idea of the answer. I just work round them in a logical order until they are done. I have extra on the bucket jaws than on a standard machine I know that much. The ones on the brake pedal cross-shaft bearings are easiest to forget, and I've never worked out a really easy way to do the pto ones apart from lying underneath facing upwards.
One day I'll have a concrete floor and one of those new mechanics chair converting into a creeper to get up easy with because sometimes it feels like I should be past crawling round in the muck under things....

I had no idea there were grease nipples underneath the machine. I have only managed to find 33, 16 at the front and 17 at the back. Thanks for the heads up MrF

I looked in the workshop manual that's in the site download sections, and in the maintenance section that says 23 at the back, and 17 at the front from a rough tally along with arrows to each one's location so you might want to check that out to make sure your not missing one.
Besides the nipples I have a habit of greasing springs and little pins etc with a small paintbrush in a grease pot. Not quite as often though. Usually when that particular part is in bits getting fixed.

It's a while ago, I am 90% it was hydraulic oil. Until sure, whatever you do, don't fill with the aggressive Dot type brake fluids.
