Hymac 580c idler bushings and seals

Post #1 by Canada Hymac 570c » Mon Jan 21, 2019 7:07 am

Hello all. I am a new owner of a hymac 580c and I am looking for help to locate replacement parts for one idler wheel that has lost its bushings and seals.

I finally got the machine apart today with great effort, and it looks like I need the bushings, face to face seals, thrush washers, and the spacer between the bushings.

Are these pieces still available anywhere? I live in Canada and people around here don’t seem to know much about these machines.

Any help on sourcing the parts would be appreciated.

I tried to post a couple of pics but they didn’t seem to load.

Dan.

You could try ebay or one of these two...

Your best bet is to pm Jeremy Rowland on this site...he will point you in the right direction

Hi Dan and welcome to the site, the second link that Alex has posted is your best bet, this is a chap called Tony Flint who was an ex-Hymac fitter he is very helpful, the problem you have is quite common on older Hymac machines, you may be best to get some new bushes turned in a local machine shop to where you live, seals should be off the shelf at any decent bearing stockist.

I received the parts the other day. Can anyone give me some tips on how to get these face seals into the housings? I have not worked with this type of seal before.

Hi Dan,
The main concern fitting these seals is to keep everything spotlessly clean and to use no oil based product on the toric,(ring).
Clean out the seal housing with a wire brush in a drill and make sure there are no burs or sharp bits that may damage the ring.
The toric, (ring), should be lubricated with an oil free solvent. IPA ,(isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol). This will evaporate or dry quickly and is recommended. Though I have used silicone spray quite successfully.
Then put the toric onto the seal taking care not to twist it. Wait for the lube to evaporate / dry between the toric an metal seal then apply more lubricant to the bottom of the seal and housing, press firmly into the housing. There is a special tool for this which prevents the ring rolling as it pushes in but I have never used one.
I have however used a "blunt" screwdriver to help position the toric . The important thing is to get it even all the way round so that the face of the seals stand the same height above the housing all the way round, use a depth gauge to check if you can.
If you get it wrong you may have to take the seal back out and start again.
Lightly oil the seal faces before assembly.
"Above all use gloves or cloths to handle the seals as the edges are like razors, will cut to the bone in a flash." :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :arrrrgh:
I hope you can follow this, it's a bit difficult to explain clearly without illustrations. :)

What type of seals are there inside bottom rollers of this age of track machine?
