Norman the 590 was a bigger heavier machine than the 580 the 590 weighed around the 15ton mark whereas the 580C was a 12tone machine.

Looking at the foto it did look a bit chunkier, did it have a bigger engine, and if so what was it, never know what's hiding in the country lanes round here.

Hi Norm; it was powered by the same engines used in the 580C, either the Perkins 6,354 or the Ford 2713E, from memory they made around 380 of the 590 model before they upgraded to the 590C model which looked more or less identical and was powered by the same engines, the main difference was that the 590C had variable speed hydraulic pumps instead of the triple inline gear pumps and it was offered with a monobloc boom as opposed to the two piece boom.
Later 590C models had an improved undercarriage that was similar to that fitted to the 580C but with duplex drive chains, there was one last model offered which was the 590CT and it was fitted with an 890 cab and servo controls as opposed to the old mechanical linkage type.
