I started a bit of restoration work on this machine yesterday; although I have purchased a tarpaulin sheet which I still cover the cab with I decided that making a temporary repair to the cab roof which has several holes rotted in it was the order of the day.
Armed with some fibre glass and resin I made a start on it; it does require further work and hopefully next year I am hoping to get a new roof fabricated and fitted.
The next work was replacing several broken grease nipples and greasing the machine, then I tackled the job of replacing the broken throttle cable which I did get fitted but not adjusted correctly before the weather decided to change for the worst. Although I could have backed the digger in the shed I had had enough by then and as it is a 2 to 3 hour journey back and in bad weather at a quarter to three I decided to 'knock it on the head' for the day and head off home.

Yes Norman it's not that far from you so I'll let you know next time I'm heading up there; at the moment it's very weather dependant and dependant on what others are doing but I'll let you know.

Does your HyMac have the Ford 6D fitted, if so, what condition is it in.

Yes Norman it has the Ford engine; she smokes a bit when cold but appears to run okay. You can still get bits for these engines okay and there are second hand units available.

I think that roof would not take much replacing (For a metal worker that is )any idea what gauge it was.

Norman I'm not sure as I have had very little time to get to grips with my new toy yet; I have a mental list of the initial jobs that I want sorted on her and have made a slow but progressive start on the work.

Hi , I have a Hymac 580 D owned it about twelve years ,got it to build myself a lake and now use it to load stuff onto my truck with some old pallet forks a retired crane driver gave me , even use it to lift engines , lifting logs onto my sawmill etc, its in perfect working order after a bit of sweat and yanking on some big spanners , I was wondering if anyone could advise I have hydraulic oil leaking from what I think is the distribution valve on the undercarriage that distributes oil to the track motors , there seems to be a drain in the centre and oil comes out there , I have a workshop manual but cant identify that part , there is a thread that looks like it should have a capped nut on it as I can stop the oil by blocking it with my finger , does anyone know if there should be a cap and if so where to get one .
