Hi,

No I ran out of 'Red', so I filled her up with ordinary white/road, that I use on my diesel car.

As well as the oil feed, will i need to remove the radiator for access, and is there anything else i should be removing - sounds daft, but it would be a great advantage to know?

No,the radiator doesn't need to come out. Just the top hose to come off.Water pump and fan stays on the block. Can't remember if there is a bypass hose to come off and possibly heater hose if you have one. Been a while since I was in one! If you haven't already looked,in the download section of the forum,go to JCB and the 9th one down the list is a workshop manual for the 3.8 and 4/98 NT engine.Should keep you right if needs be.

Hi,
Latest update.
So the rain stopped sufficiently, for me to start.
Removed exhaust manifold, fuel pipes, unions, water hose, oil feed, air intake pipe and injectors. The fourth injector though came out with the copper sleeve - see pic (I think it had been stuck in with glue). Tried to get it off, but would only damage it - I will try and source a new one - hopefully. Third injector was carbon choked on nozzle as was fourth. Ports and nozzles ragged or plastic protected. 005, 008, 007

Off came the rocker cover and gasket - this had white gunge in top - probably through condensation/oil mix (see pic). 011

The top of the cylinder head was well oiled and black (no discoloration or any particles. Oil holes looked clear etc. Nothing broken. Ragged ports to prevent problems. 012

Very badly worn on several rocker ends – some wear on certain mating valve ends. All rockers move freely. 06,09,010

Next was to identify the sequence of cylinder head bolt removal. These were relaxed and then removed. 021

By this time the rain beat me – so I gave up (my best day of the year - is summer!) will try removing the head tomorrow?

Question – I know the principle of cranking an engine, ie: - put a socket on the crank end and turn it with a bar – my problem is that there is no end of crank ie: it has a power drive fitted to it. Therefore what do you suggest that I do to turn the engine when adjusting the valves, when I get to put them back? Sounds daft but...
