Komatsu 1250-7 in England

Post #1 by Nick Drew » Sat Jul 14, 2007 10:49 am

Here are some shots of our member here at CMN Michael Lyne at the controls of a Hydrex owned Komatsu 1250-7 at work in the China Clay pits in St Austell in Cornwall.

Hopefully Michael will tell us more about this machine when he pops by!!

Nick,

What machinery do they run now down in the pits? I thought it was primarily Caterpillar down there, but obviously theyre have at least on Komatsu and a Bell dumper.

An Uncle of mine used to drive a Cat 621 scraper back in the very early 70s up on Lee Moor, he was working for a gentleman called Tom Welch who contracted a fleet of 621s and some D8 in to English China Clay. Really wish I had some pics of those days!!!

Hi Richard,

I think since Hydrex went into the pits its mainly Komatsu Excavators, dozers, & wheeled loaders and Bell 40 & 50 ton trucks, I have only been in those pits a few times and that was enough for me I think they are horrible soul destroying places!!

I think Imerys the French firm that owns the pits now are starting to wind things down anyway, from what Ive heard they have now found a place in Brazil where they can mine a similar product more cheaply :dizzy:

Yeh sure would have been nice to see those old pics of yours!!

Thanks for the reply! :D

How big is the bucket on the PC1250?

Also what Komatsu trucks do you use? Is it HM-series machines or models out of the HD-series?

And more info about the WA800 would be really nice to!

Any more pics would be really great! :D

Hi Michael,

Thanks for posting that info,

I am almost certain I saw a new Komatsu WA800 loader coming down the A30 just outside Okehampton last week in a convoy, main machine on one lorry, wheels & bucket on another and one lorry with loads of komatsu boxes on it, I guess it must of been destined for Hydrex?? Can be that much call for them anywhere else in the Westcountry.

Great to see you on here Michael... look forward to your PC800 pics
