jcb 812 oil leak

Post #1 by jamesc192 » Mon Mar 24, 2014 4:15 pm

hi all just after some advice really ,i have been working my 812 quite hard over the last week, I tracked backwards this afternoon and noticed a pool of oil
on the ground, I got out and had a look it is hydraulic oil coming through the large circular belly plate on the underneath of the undercarriage, I got a trolley jack and dropped the plate off, the oil seems to be coming out of what I think is the slew motor, from a round plate attached to the bottom of the motor held in with 3 bolts (look like 13mm spanner size) I have not removed this plate as not sure if a load of stuff is going to drop out If I do, what I need to know is do I just remove this plate and replace a seal or something like that or is it a bit more involved? also could someone advise what oil would I top the slew gearbox up with is it ep90?
any advice would be much appreciated
many thanks
James

It could be the rotary coupling leaking ,the slew gearbox is in the top of the m/c all you can see of it is the drive gear.

I should think Phil is spot on unless you have fractured/blown pipe that you can't see. The slew box will leak down that way but it would be gear oil and not huge quantities either. Incidentally its worth checking the slew box regularly, our old 814 was off the dip stick.

Do the 800 excavators have any greasers on the rotary distributors? The old Hymac did and I am wondering if I have missed anything?

hi, thankyou for the reply it is not the slew gearbox leaking as it is definitely hydraulic oil, but I am going to top up the slew gearbox as it is low on the dipstick.

many thanks
