Yes, I did work with Clachan back in 1975 at Glengarnock steel works where they removed and crushed slag that went down to Hunterston. I was on an Allis - Chalmers 545 Loading shovel (Brian Charles Plant hire)

I&H Brown had a selection of Cat's 930, 966, and a 980, aswell .

Thanks - Ian

Hi ian funny you should say 'what happened to them' as i was thinking the same when i saw those photos, as remember the depot standing empty for a few years before they built house on it (probably around 2000 ish).

IIRC they were building Carsington dam when it collapsed during construction (suffered a serious land slip while under construction and had to be redesigned and rebuilt).

Another firm is Shand who had a yard at Rowsely (Matlock) on the old station site (now a retail outlet place) but remeber seeing the big machines when i was very young in there. I think they were taken over by Morrison (from Scotland not Bradford) now better known as a utility contractor. The former Shand offices down the road are still occupied by Morrisons

Can anybody tell me anything about Dyggor Gaylord, as only ever seen there name on photos of big Opencast plant.

Dave

i can remember going to shands yard in 1966 for a injector pipe for the 110 rb when i worked for dowsett

I've got to say I love the old Poclain styling with the red and white paint. Even now they look the part even though they're decades old. They just look proper to me!
