New angle on the side tip

Post #1 by FOWLER MAN » Wed Sep 24, 2014 4:23 pm

Hi I've never seen a side tip on an excavator before. :o Can't see it being much quicker than a straight bucket. :?: :?:

Side tip on railway machines were very common. Usually Cat 951's.These days on track machines can renew ballast without taking up the track

Hello Steve,
The picture I posted was from the Balfour Beatty Rail site, so it could well be in the UK. I think the machine is based on a New Holland??
As Martyn says, side tips have been popular on rail work for years.
I spent a few Saturday nights on 951 side tips loading away ballast in the Severn Tunnel in the late 1960s, but I havent seen one on an excavator yet.
