Well, looks like I need help again from this excellent site.
My JCB 3CX playing up again it's a 1983 machine with the manual transfer box operated by a large leaver for forward and reverse on the left-hand side.
Having a problem going forward need to replace the (forward clutch pack) can anyone help? is this a job one can do without special tools? If so would be grateful for any advice.
Thanks in advance
Happy Days to all
Keven

It's the one with the 4 speed gearbox on the back of the forward/reverser you can unbolt the gearbox and lift that down then undo the forward/reverser unit,it will unbolt from the bellhousing and lift down, when you have it on the bench lay it on it's back there are 4 either 3/8 or 7/16 bolts and a oil feed pipe on the side once they are undone lift the front plate off, the reverse clutch is the large one around the outside the forward clutch is the small pack in the middle to strip you need to remove the snap ring and bearing and the piston is in the end of the unit you might need an air line to pop it out. take pictures as you strip it, it will help when you rebuild it. Thanks for your reply Phill
By your description looks easer than I thought but not getting too complacent
It still drives forward but will have to approach it soon and good idea with the photos.
Thanks again
Happy Days for you

Another alternative would be to drop out the shuttle and gearbox, and send the shuttle unit to Simon Vicary at Vicary plant. He will exchange a repairable unit for 650+VAT. There would be a surcharge if there is major component damage.
