The 580 series were 8' 0" wide this appears to be standard for the 580 and 590 range of machines.

They are a bit noddy and clumsy compared with a modern machine but better than some contemporaries with long leavers.

I have to confess I liked the old girl to be honest and it was brilliant for grading with ! I used to grade tarmac with it all the time, In the dig it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding with a big bucket on though !

It was fairly new when I first took over the drive on it and It was traded in for a Komatsu PC95 in 1995

Nick did you have foot tracking or hand tracking on the later? Ours is hand and its a bit of a pain. Ours has got a boost on the dipper via pedal. Tracking is, shall we say, steady. :D
The old Perkins runs rough on start up but clears if not too cold fairly quickly. Pig to start if hot, I chuck some water over the fuel pump then it will start. I nearly finished the engine last year as I had not realised the starting heater was leaking fuel all the time. The oil got thin and engine was missing and popping. Had the injectors serviced (they were really bad), tipped some scouring powder down the air intake whilst running on fast idle. Then worked it for a bit and changed oil and filter. Chucked some ATF in the diesel tank and it is now a lot better!
