I worked in Australia a few years ago,and as always, there was opposition to any new or extended mining job. It,s strange how nobody wants the mining but they all want electricity etc.., so you could buy a "Bumper Sticker" for your car which read,"BAN MINING-LET THE BASTARDS FREEZE,IN THE DARK" Says it all I think.

Several Scania 730 V8 in a line linked to a generator with stainless steel exhausts. Good news for the mine, hope they get some new kit in there.

Well Ian in regards to your post, I have been taking recent trips down there and there has been no movement since September, I went down in October and everything was parked. It's still that way now I believe, all that's left is an empty hole and standing machinery. So I persume it is due to money issues as they haven't started the extension yet.

I've just had a walk in my lunch break in Shipley Park and there's the noise of tree felling and land clearance in the vicinity of Lodge House - so maybe work is starting on the extension. Ian

Funny you should mention that Ian, I was walking yesterday down the Bell Lane bridleway in Smalley heading towards Shipley Park via the plant crossing at Lodge House, even though I was on the wrong side of the site, I could see across the site to where I used to stand to take pics when the site was active and it did look a little scarce of trees. Managed to catch everything in the yard parked too while I was there. I actually should take a trip down pretty soon towards that side of the site to see what's going off. They've took a long time getting moving though, I'm sure I seen on a notice down that way that work was meant to start in October 2011, but there's naff all happening still, heard down the grapevine that UK Coal are skint! Maybe that has something to do with it. I'm going down really soon for a peek regardless.

Took a trip down to lodge house yesterday and there's a notice on the public footpath saying that it will be temporarily close, it's been diverted but also the timescale is only six months? Feb 12 - Aug 12. To me that won't be long enough to opencast all the land they have marked out. They have started tree felling and putting up perimeter fencings. By the time they start stripping, it won't be until about April-may time. From that point they will have 3-4 months to get the coal out and put it back. There's still a lot of work to be done before the big boys move in.
