Work Situation

Post #1 by Col 140 » Mon Oct 20, 2008 7:28 pm

How busy are you at the moment, have your companies got much work on. We're starting to really struggle with men being sent home due to lack of work. Private house building is at a stand still and there is a real shortage of work at the moment. Just wondered if anyone else was feeling the pinch in the current economic climate.

Not very good down here in the lovely West country mate!!

I think it will all grind to a halt before Xmas!!

All we hear everyday is of firms laying off :dizzy: I am just hanging on in there where I am at the moment! It is literally day to day and being self employed I could be put off at anytime !!

I am actively trying to get back on the rail work operating the roadrailers but the have got even stricter with the rules & regs :dizzy: At least there may be a bit more security for a while!!

Failing that I will be off to Ireland to work for our member here Chris CJM who seems to be keeping very busy!! ;) ;)

Yeh I heard that on Thursday! I popped into our local BCL rail office (Now owned by Quattro Rail)

An old associate of mine runs it, but he told me it takes a long time now to get all the relevent tickets PTS etc!

Have to wait and see

Nick

The firm I work for has its own trainers that give us pts/coss certification. It may be worth it to contact EWS to see if they will fit you in on a course as they operate courses all year round.

Building work in the North West is dead at the moment. A bricklaying subbie I use has just given his 28 lads a weeks notice, another local firm has told some of their site agents to take off unpaid leave  . I currently have a job on until xmas/early January but after that........ :?:

I dont know if the situation in Sweden is of your interest?
But we are quite busy at the moment. I have to say "no" to customers that want me to work for them.
I have work at least this year and I discuss more jobs with different customers. So I am quite optimistic at the moment.

Haha!

Yesterday I said to a customer, "Where is that finance crisis we have been reading about in the hews?". :D

Well, we dont know how long it will last but we are doing ok for now.
But we all are careful about making big investments etc.
I would say that Sweden hasnt been hit that hard by the crisis. At least not yet.

I have some pics (and more to come) from my current workplace, I will post them later this week.
