Very good pictures, I am no expert but the 1 dumper seems a bit odd at the front corner?

Great pictures there Hedgeog, i can remember standing on a bridge over a section of the M25 by Sundridge i think Gleesons were on that section but there were TS 14's and a D9 ( i am pretty sure in glesson colours with red roof and fitted with pusher working) there was so much equipment there and i never took any photos of any of it and i could really kick myself now for that.

Most of the Aveling Barford Hire dump trucks were SN35s but the Centaurs were new - this one lost it's front offside wheel - the photo was taken near Coulsden.

I'm about to upload another 13 photos and there is a shot from the other side.

I started work on the M62 and M621 in my late teens and was immediately fascinated by heavy earthmoving equipement, I particularly like scrapers, but had just left school so no money for a camera and film. It was lucky the site office at Rastrick (near Huddersfield) was on a direct bus route but in about six months I had saved up for a car which was useful when you were working 7 days a week.

Great seeing your photos, I will be showing them to my father when I get back next week, that 71RB will attract his attention for sure… strange that it didn't get the black and white stripe colour scheme.
As a company they really did have a hell of a lot of equipment.
Do remember any of the names from the jobs you where on back then?

Most of the machinery drivers moved to the M23/25 when the M62 earthworks were finished.

I'm sure if other names were mentioned I would remember them.

Peter Kendall was at my dads 80th birthday party about 4 years ago, a very interesting man to talk to. I enjoyed hearing about his earthwork experiences in Malaysia.
When Peter came off machines and went up north as a foreman in or around 1968, my father took over on the D9G that Peter had been on at Covenham reservoir. I was only 13 at the time, but in those days ( ie, before the nanny state had reared its ugly head and started treating all and sundry like we are still in diapers) I was allowed to get on all kinds of equipment at the weekend. I got my first French's donkey jacket and wellies around then too and thought I was the bees knees
