A bit more progress today.
Took the heads off . The engine over heated and she has sounded a bit ragged and smoked a bit since.
I half expected to find broken top piston rings on top of one of the pistons. 
They had a habit of making a groove up the side of the piston, working their way onto the top if they overheated and broke up. Luckily the piston crowns and the bores look fine. 
Hopefully a good hone and a set of rings will sort it. I'll keep my fingers crossed till I draw out the pistons tomorrow. 
Oil pressure was good so I dont expect any problems there. 
The Fowler 33s were orange for the first few years of production and a fair bit of the original colour is showing through. As I'm restoring as original, does anyone know the paint colour code?
