About login problems

Hello,
we have got reports about login problems to the forum.
Some months ago this forumsoftware (not CMN in particular) was target of brute force attacks.
The so called "hackers" then try to login to the forums by using usernames and random passwords, several times, hoping that they will find the correct password.
This happens to every onlinesoftware now and then and is not a problem that can be solved by us.
The forum software we are using is protected against such attacks by only allowing a certain amount of wrong login-tries successively.
After that, the user will have to input a verification code when entering the username and password.
As the attacks are performed by automated scripts, they cannot react on this additional verification code.
But the "problem" is that the regular user will be facing a verification code next time he/she is trying to login. Just enter the verification code and you should be logged in.
If the problem still persists or if the login problem is of a different nature:
There are several solutions when facing login problems
1) empty your browsers cache and cookies - then try to login again
2) try to login with a different browser
3) try to login from a different computer
You dont need to worry about your passwords here more then about your passwords for webmailer or other online-applications. Your password for the forum is protected in a similar way as a hotmail-password or other application-passwords, encrypted and hidden. It is only possible to retrieve the password by guessing.
Please contact the board admin or a moderator if you have any questions! We will try to answer them!
Thank you for your contributions to CMN!
Enjoy the forums!
