Re: Komatsu 930E
Talk about mind over sight, model number on truck very obvious, but mind said was 930. Surely carryover from years ago. Please excuse error. Possible point of interest, box is wider at tail than at front, material should release like a wedge.

Re: Komatsu 930E
The "wedge" shape must be to try and eliminate wear on the scow end, that tar sand is sticky and abrasive and must wear the hell out of dump bodies.

Re: Komatsu 930E
Stu side sheet and floor wear in the last third of box length must have been a design factor. Recall early mid 90's a taconite operation had engineer pushing hard for wedge shaped box, that particular application was tailings from mill, haul to tailings pond. Trucks loaded from large hopper, no impact issues with that material but high wear in area you refer to. Needless to say in that era he didn't get box he would have liked. As you are aware the ideas of what to do in the wear area are as numerous as belly buttons.
Martin the limited information I have is it is a 2K, don't know end user or how many units. Was a comment in message about some other manufactures units which kind of sounded like an evaluation maybe where ever the location

Re: Komatsu 930E
There must be alot of "good will" with the OEMs up in the tar sands area, i mean the costs of sending a truck of that size to a mine all the build up, technicians etc and no guarantee of any sales at the end?

Martin being way down on the "forward list" asked a question of a source a bit closer to real time happenings. This is response " three year rodeo" with 2x Cat 797, 2xLiebherr T282 and 1 x 960 involved with Syncrude. The 960 and 2x797 are on site, awaiting 2x282 arrival and erection.

Re: Komatsu 930E
Hi guys, there are actually two 960Es, not the one as mentioned. The trucks have been brought in on a three year lease to evaluate which of the models will work best for us for future truck purchases. The two 960Es are K1 and K2, the two 797Fs are C1 and C2, and the two Liebherr T282Cs are to be labelled as L1 and L2. The Liebherrs are due to arrive on site in July, but that is not a firm date as of yet.
As a side note, there were also two MT6300s that were supposed to come and try out as well. Due to some political issues, they were sent away, but had been sitting up here, pretty much ready to go to work for almost a year. Whether the issues will be worked out and the trucks returned or not, remains to be seen.
Here is a picture of them a little over a year ago. They were dismantled and shipped out last July or August.
