I have a pic in a book of a 657 crossing Tyne bridge. If its this one it was heading to Radar OCCS

It was quite common back in the day. Take Euclid/Terex in Scotland delivering R45 dumptrucks by road. Now that would have been a long drive, all the way from Scotland to West Wales on old A roads. Lucky VOSA wern't around lol.

not sure whether the old number plate regions applied back then but if it did then 'UAF' would be a Cornish registration

when i was growing up there used to be a quarry in hope, derbyshire and they used to use 773's or similar models and run them up the hils to the tip area on public roads
