Thats a good Q John.

I've thought that about a few posts on things talking about sites by name.

The few Know what they are on about and anybody else left wondering, but probably dont want to ask for fear of appearing ignorant as you say. :dizzy: And on long threads spend the time wading through to see if the answers there. :(

Just a thought all - a locality to go with the name  (we have a world wide audience of veiwers)

Cheers SB

Have to get the map out for that one.

Reminds me of in the 80s when open cast sites were opening up all over a convoy of several German low loaders turned up in Staveley and turned into the housing estate :!: some body up the road had told the go up the road and turn right after the pub. :?

The drivers spoke little english and had no map or instructions of were to go other than xyz open cast site, Staveley Derbyshire. :dizzy: So the group that had gathered then suggested they go to the Open cast site near whats now Markham Vale by J29a as loads of big stuff was coming from there along with a staedy stream of coal trucks and the Coal board had workshops there. Alos the Name they had dident match the one nearer chesterfield at Brimmington either.

A few weeks latter we found out it was some were else when talking to somebody else - OOPs :dizzy:

But the Name dident match any of the local villages or pits.

To send out a £millions of machinery with no Directions especially when all on oversize loads as it was the track assemblies, Bucket and dipper + Crates of bits for a Demag 241/285 (IIRC) Not small bits.

Wish id had a camera at that time :( I remember seeing a smaller one working on the site at brimington but cannot find the photos. They had dug the canal up and were working right near the road.
