Komatsu F/Shovel in NZ.

Post #1 by dozeron » Mon Jul 16, 2007 5:34 am

A few weeks back I put up a thread that showed 38RBnavvys at a quarry not far from where I lived. They were put out to pasture by this rig, a Komatsu F/Shovel. Here it is loading a couple of the Euclid dumptrucks they also run. They have about 8 dumpers, mostly Euclids but also at least one Wabco. Not sure of the model as this was as close as I could get.

Hmm is that a PC650 or something similar? Those Euclid trucks look really good...

Euclid trucks was such one they use in Sweden during the 50th decade when they were building the power plant of Harrsele waterfall in Västerbottens county and sure many other power plants in Sweden. I was a kid and it was exiting se them running every time I got to se them. My father deliver board to this large working place and sometimes I followed him.

Ron,

Thanks for posting the photo! It is the only "working" shot Ive seen of this particular machine that was not in a Komatsu brochure or catalog. If you have more and are willing to share, I would love to see them.

Niklas,

I can tell you for certain that the hydraulic shovel is a Komatsu PC650-1. This design had an interesting hydraulically operated kinematic on the stick that changed the digging envelope geometry. There was a scale model of this particular machine produced by Shinsei a long time ago, but is still readily available.

Hi Niklas,
This is the only other shot I got of the 650-1.
Hope you enjoy it.
regards, dozeron.

Hi Ron,

Many thanks for the additional photo! A very interesting and (I believe) short lived hydraulic shovel.

That photos taken in Penwardens quarry up Wharawhara Rd ,Katikati. I think its now been taken over by Swaps from Matamata, one of the dozen orso quarries they own in the Waikato/B.O.P..

The Euclids look like R15s with maybe Cummins engines. If they belonged to Weddings they would have R/R engines.

Hi Ray,
You could be right about Swaps now owning the quarry. At that time it was owned by Metal Haulage. The Eucs were ex Wilkins & Davies if I remember correctly.
