I worked on one about 30 years ago,it was given a fantastic paint job in a dark maroon. Not sprayed but coach painted and lined out.I wonder if that machine is still around ?
The Ford engines are normally very good if they have been looked after and have been anti freezed.
Looking forward to seeing the progress on this project

Re: Aveling Barford Roller
wee update, apart from a drive up to the washer, the roller hasn't really done anything. So today I had a bit of time on my hands, I fired her up and used her to roll in some type 1 that I had put out. She handled the task perfectly and I'm more than happy with finished result. I've spread out some more type 1, but before I got a chance to get it rolled, I got called away to do some deliveries. But hopefully tomorrow I'll get her going again and get the camera out too and get a video up.

I'm going to tidy it up a bit and try and find out a bit more of its history, a full restoration is probably a bit beyond my capabilities, but I suppose you should never say never, lol.

Re: Aveling Barford Roller
This roller is well worth restoring. It may look a big task but if you tacklle the jobs in managable chunks ie engine, brakes etc then the tinwork. The roller seems to function well.As the old steam rollers become expensive to buy and maintain,I think the motor roller preservation will increase. In particular the larger Aveling Barfords like yours.

Re: Aveling Barford Roller
Been busier this afternoon on her, put a proper seat in instead of sitting on the base frame for the original seat. Also cut out a couple of perspex panels to replace the cracked front and side windows, going to have to order some glazing rubber for them though, got some sourced via ebay. Also ripped out all the old wiring and took out the control box from inside the cab, going to clean it up this weekend and put an ignition switch in it, then I have the base to start rewiring it a bit at a time.
