I read about them in Old Glory magazine,I hope that we will see them preserved. They have been kept well so hopefully we will see them at vintage shows in the future.

There are some photos of them on Steamscenes web site from the museums open day this year. http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/events/2010/thursford-museum/

Hopefully some should be out at events fairly soon next year even if displayed as 'projects in progress'. There are more photos and discussions about them on Traction Talk the Steam Engine forum. http://www.tractiontalkforum.com (you need to sign up to view the photos).

hi all,
just a little further update on my earlier post about an auction ,
"Thursford steam relics raise £250,000 at auction"
An auction of steam age relics lovingly hoarded by the founder of the Thursford Collection has raised about £250,000 to help fund the future restoration of his legacy.

Hundreds of enthusiasts endured torrential rain showers to bid for 200 lots which were part of the collection amassed by the late George Cushing at his storage yard in Thursford, near Fakenham.

They fetched from £10K to 25K each according to a post on a Traction Talk yesterday.

Full results list now on Cheffins web site - http://www.cheffins.co.uk/saleresults/vintage/thursford-nr21-0as-173-0?pg=6

@25K there's not too much economic sense to it really. I think everything sold needs much boiler work. So a new firebox, barrel, tubeplate, work on the throat plate and outer wrapper etc etc will see you arrive at £40K - a price for a good working roller with sound boiler.....

Then there's the work on the motion - gears bearings etc etc....

Julian.

Maybe some of the buyers did not get 3 quotes for the work required first.

Or else it the premium for the past history. Some on TT were talking of them going to 80K pre auction so they maybe a bargain in the eyes of some.

Or perhaps they are hoping a nice set of front wheels will raise them to 250K as fetched by a A&P tractor recently. ;) adding twisted brass and a washing machine motor being out of fashion these days

60k will buy some of the new 'kit' 3/4 scale engines as well.

That £250,000 for the Aveling tractor was because it was Fred Dibnah's tractor. Glad to see that machine will still do the rally circuits and that Jack Dibnah will be allowed to drive it.Freds roller is in need of a retube. Also just learned that Fred grave is in poor state, how sad.I may take a trip up to Bolton soon and put some flowers on his grave and maybe tidy it up,he was good to me so its the least I could do.I had a chance of getting a roller around 25 years ago which was in good condition and had a current boiler certificate for £15,000.In hind sight I should have gone for it.Also missed out on a tripple D for a fraction of what the fetch now.
