Allis -Chalmers HD41 & 31 At Lydney OCCS South Wales

Post #1 by Jim M » Thu Oct 31, 2013 5:20 pm

Pictures of Wights Plant Hire AC 41 and 31 Dozers taken in Lydney OCCS in 1979. Pictures from Roger Champion archive. I think i'm right in saying that, the HD41 was the biggest dozer at one stage only to be beaten by the Cat D10 in 1977 or am i wrong on that one?

Wow - never realised that a HD41 worked in the UK.

They were very big dozers - a fair bit heavier than the D9 at the time I believe and only beaten by the D10. The Muskingham Mine in Ohio where Big Muskie worked had a lot of these and really rated them apparently.

Hi Jim,
I believe that you are correct that the HD41 was the largest dozer until the Cat D10 came out. I too did'nt realise that any had made it into the UK

I'm sure that when I have seen this picture before the dozer in Big Muskie's bucket says Fiat-Allis on the front. I'll try and find a better resolution picture.

Looks like a D9H to me to Ian, the HD41 has got twin exhausts. I have an old Guinness book of records with a picture of a large dozer in a drag line bucket, I'll look it out, it might be the HD41 ?

Here we go - just taken a quick photo of an old Guinness Book of Records book.

Definitely a Fiat-Allis, however, 1 exhaust stack? Maybe the early units only had one stack (or it isn't a 41)?

Could be a HD31 Dave, but as i don't actually know if there are models in between the 31 and 41 dozers it could be an early one.
