Hi Jim,

I'll try and get some pics of the dozers at the Muskingham Mine. I went to see Big Muskie's bucket a few years ago and there was a lot of information about the mine kicking around so I'll try and contact a few of the people to email something over.

It would be interesting to see how much actual plant is /was involved in production for the mine. I would imagine quite a lot.

Apparently it was one of the largest fleets of equipment around at the time.

They had Big Muskie, a BE 2570W dragline, a Marion 8750 dragline, quite a few other loading and stripping shovels and a fleet of dozers and 657's!

Whilst working for Gleesons on the A3M road job in Hampshire during the late 70's I remember Wights HD 41 being on hire to Gleeson, Its main task was push loading a fleet of TS 24'S.Due to the size of its blade it was only due to the experience of Charlie the operator that the 24's rear tyres weren't ripped apart by the cutting edge of the blade as some of the 24's jockey's would start to turn before they were clear of the blade. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of this operation which was a very impressive sight to witness back in those days

Many years ago I helped Nobby Richards re-string a coal blade on a TC12 on the OCCS at Lydney it was owned by Wights??? I think, not far from the 12 was a large A.C. dozer that had just had the transmission rebuilt and the fitters had been struggling all day to get it to move, they kept moving the gear change lever from F to R all of a sudden the tractor bit up on the drive much to the pleasure of the fitters working on it, the tractor was a good bit bigger than the T.C.12 although the massive coal blade on the 12 looked bigger, the TC 12 in the S.E. Davis collection could be the same tractor from this site as its fitted with the same Balderson Coal blade???

Yes Graham,
I remember it too. I think it was Dai Fynnons HD 41.
Do you remember the Ex. Leatherbarrows HD 21P I ran in the early 1980s??
Good tractor when it wasn't broken down.

Hi,
There were no models between the 31 and 41.
The HD41 was 525 bhp.( later ones were 550 bhp.), they weighed in at 70 tons or more according to spec.
