Would have to be a pretty good radio to out shout the bark of those exhausts and the squeeling clomping tracks.
That's why we're all deaf. The cotton wool ear plugs could'nt have worked.
Not only Ex Army Berets, but we had Ex Army Balaclavas too, to try to stop the dust thrown off the tracks stinging your faces.

If you saw a dozer with a bloke in a balaclava these days people would assume it to be "al queda plant hire"
