Don't think they made an 8260, probably a 8250. As for good ideas, what are you thinking of?

Hi,
The C6 Euclid developed in the 50s was the first of the line and appeared in the early 60s.
It used the GM 6-71 engine rated at 218 hp. This tractor had developed into the 82-30 by 1966 with hp. uprated to 239.
The Euclid 82-40 , introduced in 1966 used the GM 8V-71N engine rated at 290 hp.
Where I worked in the 1960s used to run three 82-40s, there was never any problem with the Allison transmissions, the finals, or the running gear but the radiator which was at the back, behind the opperators seat was prone to collecting dust and causing overheating. We were always blowing / steaming them out. The overheating problem lead to engine problems (cracked heads or biown head gaskets), on all three machines.
These tractors were replaced by three Terrex 82-30s in 1969,` but I moved on to pastures new in 1970 so didn't have much to do with them. The lads gave good reports on them though.
I think the 82-50 was introduced by Terrex about 1973.
The TC 12 twin tractor had become the 82-80 in 1967.

i know what you mean about the good ideas. The single front ram left good visability from the cab.The top rollers were inverted thus allowing them to be dug out easier. The track frames wouldn't have to be removed for final drive access either I don't think. That said...if they were any good they would still be around.I have only ever worked alongside one in the early 90's.It was an 8240B and worked quiet well.It had a GM V8 about 300hp and was easily interchangeable with the countless TS24's of the day.It was also faster geared than D8's or the clumsier 155's and showed especially when pulling a box.
It's a shame it's getting torched though.

There were quite a few at one time, the army ran them, so did the coal board. The problem I think was they weren't competitive on price, didn't have the dealer support nationally, and the sizes produced were in direct competition with the D7/8/9's, which were undoubtedly good machines. My only operating experience of Terex was an 8250. When the revs dropped it didn't want to push through, bit like a two-stoke motorbike.

Apears to be fited with a Detriot Diesel 8V71, which would make it a 82-40
