Re: CAT D8L
great old picture there andy.Judging by the D8N in the pic the D8L must be a rebuilt model?.In saying that I believe they still made them in Brazil a few years after the N series was in production.
A good sized tractor for pushing 627's in heavy going.
Keep them coming.

Worked for levertons at ashford from 1990 to 1998 but been around plant since age of five. My dad worked at bluewater from late sixties to early nineties so always been really been interested in plant. Scrapers and dozers are my thing, drove them all from early age, including push pulls, no heath and safety then and you could take your kids to work with you and get them interested in machines

Re: CAT D8L
Dozers and scrapers are my thing too mate.Started off on a TS24B B10 series about 1988 and worked with various Terex TS14/24 concoctions over the years.pushed with D8,D9,D10 and 155 tractors.First used a 68A and box in 1989 and took a keen interest in them.I bought a 68A back in 1990 ish and ended up with 4 of them at one time along with D4,5 and D6 dozers.started to have other busines interests about 2000 and got rid of most of them.(got a wife and family so had to settle down!)Kept a newish D5H LGP in the yard just incase the new venture didn't work out.It did and to this day keeps me and a few good men in clothes! .However, the Cat yellow never left the blood stream so have kept buying and selling D8H 68A series tractors as a hobbie(so to speak).I am currently running 2 D8H's at the moment which would be number 8 and 9 I reakon and have no plans to sell them untill the drivers want to retire.......
I get down to see them about once a month and occasionally do the odd shift on one.
You can follow their highs and lows on this board under the sheduled maintenance thread.
Best regards.
Nicky.

Re: CAT D8L
Its not that bad joe. I put a new lad through his CPCS dozer ticket. Cost me £1200 plus VAT outlay, he passed, got £870 back in the grant from CITB plus the VAT back through normal channels. I know its bullshit but in the end it cost me just over £300. I suggest you get a sponser to get you though it.

Re: CAT D8L
Id try and persuade my gaffer now to put me through it but in all honesty i cant see it happening as we have no work for 360's and JCB's so he isnt going to spend money on me for a machine we dont even own haha
