D8R & others with boxes

Post #1 by Rolyd8k » Sun Dec 23, 2007 5:13 pm

as well as motor scrapers and dumptrucks 2 D8Rs & hyd boxes were
used by Blackwells on the Corby job,the Rome boxes originated via
Ray Weaver then Weldon Plant, those 30 yrd boxes rearly take some pulling,
the blades being left on the tractors to give more grip. more to come

John,i took the pictures spring 06,we had a chance to buy these two
boxes over 25 years ago but they looked to big and heavy, so i stayed
with the 463s they carry less at 26 yrds but a lot easier to pull.

Those are big boxes.D9H or older 155A would suit better? Do the D8's pull them ok?they look like good loads but I wonder what the convertor temp's like.
Top pics again.
Pulling a D8 final drive tomorrow for a spot of preventative maintenance.Fingers are crossed :|

they were loading these boxes ok in topsoil, but 3 months ago we worked
with them in a resevoir and loading clay slowed them down,as it did with
two 155s also on site pulling rome boxes,as you say they are better suited
to a D9H,keep us posted on the final drive job, weve just fitted new cross-shaft
bearings in 2 D8s with steering problems, they were dumping oil due to broken seals in
damaged bearing cages, just the re-coil spring to replace.
