hey mick ,
when do you want the tooling for the injectro removal?
If you want i am keen to get up that way and have a look around so i could meet you there and remove the injectors myself if you would like. i am keen to get the tractor going asap.
Cheers ,
mick

Hi Mick & Michael,
we have a 50-C also- about 70 km NW of Toowoomba.
It's running fine, just missing the odd bolt or cap here & there, but I'm chasing a wreck for parts & blade & hydraulics, cheapishly.
(and how DO you get the injectors out?!)

P.S we don't have a manual or any paperwork on it either.
Best wishes,
Ian

Hi Michael,

any chance we can add it as PDF to the download-section?

Best regards

Hi Mick and Mick,
sorry I've been elsewhere & busy since I last posted...
But I think ours is a Fiat 50L, not a 50 C like I said above. I'm not sure technically what the differences between the C & the L are.
We had to get the magneto remagnetised, as there was no spark, but now it runs like a dream-only flooding occasionally! There were a few other small things to attend to, but all were simple enough. The hour meter has a broken gear inside-that musy be a fault with them as I've since seen a couple with the same break.

IN the meantime we did manage to get a second similar one for spares-complete with hydraulics & blade. The only issue is it's a Fiat T55L, and is about 35cm wider overall in the tracks & the steel channel that carries the idler bearings etc. The engine on it is kaput-the former owner had a cylinder head bolt rust off & a well-meaning neighbour offered to fix it. Fast forward 10 years, and sitting in the paddock with no head on causes it to suffer somewhat from the weather etc.
The hydraulics & linkages etc were made or suplied by a firm called 'Trac-Quip' according to the little plaque, and the power unit/hydraulic pump is 'Hydreco' brand, made in Australia under licence, according to the plaque. The bloke we got it from says the hydraulic pump was done up approx 90 hours work before the engine stopped.

The 55 looks to have 'extensions' to widen the track driving gears out from the body, compared with the 50.
The 'channel' that holds the bearings & idlers etc is the same length front to back, on both of them, & is 6" wide, top to bottom.

What I'm trying to figure out now is whether it is worth either getting someoine to oxy the main arm/wishbone steel bar that the dozer blade attaches to, and cut the 35cm difference out (take 17.5 cm off each side & leave the middle intact), so that it should hopefully fit onto the narrower 50L;

or see if the rockers or whatever they are called, (the things the body sits on) can come off the 55L and will fit the same mounting bolt holes under the 50L, and shift the front springs across, and hopefully shift the back chassis/diff 'extensions' that widened the driving gears on the 55, on to the back of 50...
so that we can get a useable dozer out of the usable crawler.

Or find someone with a skinnier set of blade 'arms'/wishbone/U section we could swap with...

I'll try & upload a few photos of each of them in a moment.
The blade is off the 55L, as we had to cut down the weight as we snigged it up onto the truck.

P.S. I should apologise for my ignorance of the right terminology for the various parts-sorry! I'm a horsey person more than a tractor person-we breed Clydesdale horses here...

Anyhow here are some photos of my 15 year old son's two machines:

This is the Fiat-50L-a good little goer: (we have since put the track guards on.)

This is the 'new' ;) 55L with hydraulics, & the blade removed for manageability while loading up onto the truck:

This is the kids snigging the Fiat 50L off the truck & out into the paddock:

The hydraulic oil pump mounted to the harmonic balancer through the big hole in the casting at the bottom of the radiator, though I think it can go on the PTO shaft at the back just as happily:

The plaque

The label from Trac-Quip, the maker of the links & arms etc I guess, but a search of Google did not tell me anything:

Actually, it loks like the hydraulics/linkages are the same as in Mick/Naparlm's picture higher up.

My query is really just requesting an opinion of what's the best or the easiest way of getting the hydraulics from the wider 55, onto the working slightly narrower 50 crawler? By altering the gear underneath & trying to swap parts over, or by oxy-ing 14" of width out of the big bar the the blade connects to, or something else? I'd hate to think what the cost of the right sized u or wishbone part for the blade to connect to might be at a Cat parts/supply place.
Or does someone have some parts we could swap?

Our blade pushing u bar is 2060mm inside/between pivot holes at the back end, and 2070mm inside at the front in line with the front of the tracks.
The Fiat 50L is 1510mm over to over, left to right across the tracks which are 350 wide each.It is 1520mm wide over the 'channel' left to right.
The Fiat 55L is 1960mm over, across the tracks, which are 450 wide each. It is 1915mm wide over the 'channel' left to right that the blade arm pivots on.

Thanks for any ideas!

P.S we have managed to borrow a manual for a similar model & will eventually copy it. It's mostly in Italian though...
Best wishes,
Ian

Hi, Ian Stewart-Koster.
You could have a real interesting time trying to sort out which bits of that jigsaw puzzle might fit where. If my understanding is kee-wrecked, there are not many of the major components that will swap from one to tother between the 50's and the 55's.

I suspect that both Trac-Quip and the parent company, Freighter, have long since vanished from this 'mortal coil' as those Fiats were imported here in the late 1940's, -50's and -60's. I can remember there being quite a few around in my school days and just after I started working for a crust in 1960. I also doubt that Hydreco is still around.

One snag that may arise from trying to put the hydraulic pump on the PTO is that the PTO may only run when the master clutch is engaged. At least where it is, you have live hydraulics for the blade.

A trick that might help you switch the blade from the 55 to the 50 would be to put extended trunnions on the 50, similar to what they do with LGP/swamp dozers to get the push arms outside the wide track plates.

I live on the Gold Coast, roughly about 3 hours from you.

Hope this helps.
