I have heard that Caterpillar are looking to build a one off bigger dozer than a D11.Have you heard anything about it?

Stuart,thanks for posting pictures,i hear the machine reguarly wears out quite a lot of
metal in that quarry( ripper tips,cutting edges,tracks etc ) by the looks of the paint loss
on the ripper,the leg goes in right up to the frame.

Hi, Stuart.
Thanks for the photos. They are a very nice machine to operate. Some people seem to think they are too big to be able to trim with but I disagree. My first time out with one was knocking over a dump site and I had no trouble getting a reasonable surface on it for the trucks to travel on.

They dont do too bad at pushing and ripping either. The one that I ran certainly put its grunt on the ground better than the D10R that I ran several months earlier. Just my 0.02.

Depending on where abouts in the quarry they are working they can get an hour out of a ripper tip before its no good, kind of looks like the back yard of a dinosaur dentist come the end of a week!
Hard on the U/C as well, less than 2000 hours per turn and around 3500 full U/c replacment.

She got her name from a competition the local school ran, named after "matilda" in the UK series Robot Wars.

Yes it is correct that CAT had the idea of a D12 dozer. A machine in the same size as the Komatsu D575 superdozer that is the largest in production at this time.
However CAT scrapped the idea since the market for such a large machine (150ton of opperation weight) is not big enough.

The Stokey owned D11R was featured in Earthmovers and if my memory serves mem well it was ripping sandstone and conglomerates that are strongly cemented with a Calcite cement, that makes them very hard in a quarry in Staffordshire (?)
