Understand. Here in the pacific Northwest, loggers will take one of those machines (a 60-70 thousand lb excavator
such as a Cat 330 or one of the competitive Japanese brands adapted to being a log loader with a straight boom
and a grapple and log with the thing and operate it 15-18,000 hours without major problems except that they will go through a few undercarriages---but to do so they grease it every night.

we own 3 Link-belt 4300s --- which is really a Sumimoto excavator repainted. 2 of which have izsuzu diesels and 1 with a cummins that are 15 to 18 years old. Besides undercarriage issues (we treat undercarriages as expendibles because driving around in the woods they are), they are sound machines. the joints are tight, and they dont have stress cracks in them. The main rotation bearings are showing some slack etc. but they are solidly functional.

If my memory isnt playing tricks on me that D4 is at Waterbeach on an old Airbase which was used by the Royal Engineers as a depot and to train their operators to repair runway damage I first saw it 25 years ago- the inscription in front of the D4 says something about it serving in the WWII but as my father said at the time the D4 on display is later vintage than that

Regards Simon

I stand corrected about the inscription I looked at it a bit closer and I think they might have changed it form the original

Hello Cat kid
That dozer is too young to have been used in ww2, looks around 1960s vintage.I would like to own one of them,it looks like a D4C.
