I've tried to find out more about this.

Apparently it's International and president of the construction division had a Hough loader background. He was sure that big crawlers had no future so he scrapped the idea and put the R&D money into the 580 loader.

This was a prototype and the TD40 came out as a 530 horsepower dozer in a D9 or 355 size machine. This beast went no further (one person even recalled that it may be wooden!).

Dave.

Hi, Dah.
That is a mock-up of an International TD24 crawler tractor - way over-sized. The TD24 was around 180 hp and 26-27 tons fully rigged as a dozer in its last version, roughly D8 plus a couple of tons and about 20 - 30 hp.

Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

That's a pretty impressive looking machine!
