Glad you like the pictures Nick, went to the Bridgend show after lunch. It was a total washout with mud 12 inches deep. All the stalls had gone early people had to make a bridge out of chairs to get off the field, looked like something from "Its a Knockout"

Hi, Holger.
That Holt is, I think, a Holt 10-ton crawler. The 10-ton, along with the 5-ton and the 2-ton, were the only Holt designs to be carried over into production when Holt and Best merged to form Caterpillar, in August, 1925. The 5-Ton and the 10-Ton were dumped not long after the merger, largely because of the complicated nature of their track systems and the numbers of moving, wearing parts in them. The 2-Ton survived a little longer, until 1929, when it was replaced by the Cat Ten.

Hope this helps.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Ah!
Because I read Caterpillar on the front of the machine!
That was why I was wondering!

Hi, Holger.
Holt used that wavy Caterpillar logo almost from the first crawler tractor they made and it became the name of the company when Holt and Best merged. It was also retained as the logo for some years after the merger. Later, the wavy Caterpillar was dropped in favour of the straight version that most of us know today.

The most widely accepted version of the origin of the name is that it came from a photographer named Charles Clements whom Holt retained to photograph his tracked steam traction engine in early 1905. Clements, viewing the upside-down image of the tracks in his camera viewfinder, commented that it looked like a a giant caterpillar as the track chain undulated over the track rollers. Benjamin Holt liked the comparison and adopted it for his tracked traction engines from then on.

Didjya learn anything????????? I will be asking questions later. LOL.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
