CATERPILLAR D2

Post #1 by martyn williams » Sun Jul 15, 2007 11:34 am

This is my Cat D2 3j built in 1938, the person sitting on it is the son of the original owner. John Ingate (pictured) last drove this machine in 1957.His father purchaced the machine for £500 in 1938,it was used on the farm in Halesworth Suffolk.
I always try to get the history of the machines I restore.I contacted Thurlows, the dealer that sold the machine to farmer Ingate. They put my letter on their notice board,by chance John Ingate read the letter when he visited the depot for spares, he could not believe it was his families old D2.He came to visit us last year to see his old trusty steed, I started it up and let hime drive it.There were tears of joy in his eyes as it was evident it brought back many memories of years gone by.He even recorded the engine noise!!
It makes this hobby worth while.
