Crawlers...

Post #1 by biggurn » Wed Oct 15, 2014 8:14 pm

I'm new here... sort of. I've lurked for a good time now, and had access for quite a while, but for one reason or another, I hadn't posted until now :D
I collect and restore antique machinery (Engines, Chainsaws, CRAWLERS). I post fairly often on the smokstak.com forums, especially concerning an ongoing Hit&Miss engine restoration and this summer on a recently completed Cat Sixty Restoration:

We also have another cat Sixty we hope to restore next summer, it is Caterpillar Diesel Conversion number TWO, it needs quite a bit of mechanical work on the under carriage and so it has been waiting while we finish other "short term" projects.

I also own a Cletrac HG 42 that has been previously re-powered with a Allis Chalmers B125 power pack. It is also outfitted with a home-made dozer blade that needs some attention (currently it has a manual pump ram that only goes up, no down pressure)

But the reason for my deciding to post: I have a Cletrac 20C basket case (literally the engine came in baskets) that was imparted to me... the engine requires a good deal of machine work (two sleeves, valve seats) none of that is an issue. What is an issue has been locating a quality manual for the Hercules OOC engine, I have purchased the jensales manuals, but their quality was less than stellar. I was wondering if anyone knew of a Hercules over-haul manual or all inclusive Hercules manual?

Hi Gurn, are you going to paint that SIXTY grey or leave it as is? What condition is the D7700 engine in the SIXTY conversion? I have a Diesel 60/65 with a D9900 engine. Where are you located? I know I am a pain in the backside just asking questions, sorry cant help with the Cletrac.
