D6b 62a375 561 pipe layer

Post #1 by Nickswad » Fri Apr 11, 2014 1:08 pm

Hi from Charleville Australia, does anyone have a picture or drawing of a D6B dash? My dozer's dash is in a sad state and I'm not sure what some bits are.
Thank you in advance if you can help.

Hello Nick, looks like you got one of my favorite dozers down there.
Well, here it goes.
1. Light switch (working lights, front, front and rear, all including dash light.
2. Ignition on/off pony engine.
3. Main switch, famous Cat key.
4. Oil pressure gauge.
5. Dashboard light.
6. Amp gauge.
7. Coolant temp gauge.
8. Choke and throttle control pony engine.
9. Clutch lever to engage the pony engine with the main diesel engine.

If your 561 is direct start, no pony engine, forget about pos 2,8 and 9.
The rounded housing that slides over the front panel of the dashboard is made fiberglass and held in place by 4 bolts.
The fuel pressure gauge is mounted direct on the top of the fuel filter housing.
Gauges and switches are easy to find, from any Cat from that period.
A replacement for the fiberglass housing will be a challenge, but all D6B bulldozers, track type tractors had the same housing.

During a pipeline construction job in the northern sahara, during the early 80's we had a few of those 561's and they performed outstanding.

Could you post some pictures of the 561?

Best regards.

Hi Bertus Land, thanks for your reply, my dash is just a little different. I'll certainly take some pics and post for you, I'll take some pics of the dash and post as well, I'm guessing the bit I'm not sure of is the lights switch,I could be wrong. I have managed to get a good replacement for the fibreglass dash surround and will use it as a mould to produce a few good ones for other owners as I've noticed they are often in poor condition.
I've recently bought this dozer, it belonged to my father inlaw since about 1981. I used it in 1998 for awhile to put in roads, tracks and fence lines on a small block we bought outside Charleville, it did a great job. It is now being used to further develop the block. It came with a bull blade, stick rake, tow along three Tyne ripper which I will use for poly pipe laying, and a six yd scoop for cleaning out dams and tanks. Beautiful little machine! Just need a little maintenance here and there.

Hello Nick, thanks for your reply.
See the pictures for the dashboard arrangement of a D6B and a 561B.
These are direct start.

Best regards.
