Latest.
Replaced alternator every thing was fine, when I put everything back together the light was back on.....
Took it apart found I broke the L wire connectiion on connector block side on loom when refitting obviously its was brittle.
Anyone got any ideas where to buy a new replacement connector ?
Tried JCB but you have to buy a new loom!!!!!!

I gather your alternator looks like one of these sought of with the two spade connectors at right angles if so you can just cut both the wires of and put two spade connector plugs on

My alternator has 3 connections , but if icannot find the correct plug I will take up your suggestion

Managed to find replacement female connectors on ebay for a couple of pounds and replaced them in old plug . things are now sorted and no boiling battery as voltage now does not exceed 14.6v when charging....

The alternator replaced cured the problem thank you all for the helpful advice.
