Bedford Truck Plant , Dunstable

Post #1 by andyb » Wed Sep 14, 2011 1:04 pm

A few years ago the old Bedford Truck Plant in Dunstable was demolished , the final phase was the old sprinkler water tower , due to its size it was decided to demo the legs to bring it down to a more managable level. I was privilaged to be there as a VIP on the day , these are photos from the day .

Due to problems my end this will be over several posts.

Andy

Very much so , the area it covered was huge the old social club and huge office area was sold off to build a Mc Donalds and a Sainsburys and car park , the single storey area of the factory become a 10 unit retail park and parking with a seperate KFC and a Pizza hut , the area in the pictures became a 350,000 squ ft and a 500,000 squ ft warehouses with yards the finished truck area become eight 10/15,000 squ ft units and another area become a 150,000 squ ft factory. The original site covered some 98 acres and at its height employed some 5,500 workers . I just found this old picture online to give you an idea :
