Norma the dumper

Post #1 by Scruffyhippo » Tue Aug 24, 2010 8:59 pm

Hi, I am new on this forum, and have just aquired this little dumper, all I know is it was built in the 50's

There is one plate on it but this seems to of been an owners plate which is Marples ridgeway and partners

I also found this info online; Marples-Ridgeway's main concern was constructing roads. They contributed to several motorway projects during the fifties and sixties and also constructed the Hammersmith flyover in London.

In 1959 Ernest Marples had given the go-ahead for the first inter-city British motorway, the M1. This initially ran from London to Nottingham, closely following one of the London to Nottingham railway lines. Marples-Ridgeway was given the contract to build the M1.

I actually bought this in Nottinghamshire :)

Anyone know what it is

Thanks :)

Hi Scruffy
Welcome to the forum.
I'm pretty sure your dumper is a rarely seen Fowell. They were made by George Fowell Plant ltd. and there is not much information on them.
You will find a bit on here if you search for Fowell, Good luck.

Hi, Martin and thanks for the welcome, it was already named Norma although I think it may stick :)
