Re: Classic pictures Updated 21/03/2021

Looks like a Sherman backhoe as also fitted to Brays. Got a DB book somewhere that has a different DB backhoe loader that they sold ( few of ) in UK IN 60s Craig Hi, I've done a bit of research on this one now, and I reckon your spot on with the digger being Sherman. Strange geometry with...

Re: Ransomes T51D Cooling Fan Direction

I suspect that it may just be the case that somebody has had the fan off in the past and fitted it back on backwards? Does the engine overheat? You are quite right though the fan should draw cooling air through the radiator, daft question if you stood in front of the radiator and revved the balls o...

The industrial David Brown 990 (selectamatic?) is a rare one, and a nice shot of a Foden 4000 - always liked those. Is the last pic the A692 Mam Tor road? Here's an even rarer industrial David Brown. I think it used the 52 hp. 990 engine. http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/images/userpix/2600_LP...

Re: Dumper restoration

Hi Stuart,
You should be able to re-tap the hole in the filter head and and use a slightly larger screw.

Re: Main bearing cap orientation

Yes, rule of thumb for all British engines. The bearing locating nibs in the block, caps and in the con rods and caps all go to the camshaft side.

Re: Mysterios metal in oil sump

Almost certainly to fit the new one into the idler gear, you might be able to 'split' the old bearing shell by cutting it with a hacksaw, but getting the new one in really should be done in a press, rather than a vice... Hi, I rebuilt quite a few of these engines many years ago and I'm surprised th...

Re: Dumper restoration

Hi Stuart, The spill timing on your engine is not set with shims as Ian suggested. I think he was confusing your Petter engine with a Lister which does use shims. Your spill timing is set by adjusting the tappet below the pump which can be seen in your last pic. To set the spill timing you will need...

Re: Hymac 580d issues

Hi, I have read through the posts on this one and I think whilst it could be the seals in one or both rams my money would be an, (SLRV), service line relief valve fault. I think too that the wandering slew is possibly a cross line relief valve fault. You need a pressure test to pinpoint and correct ...

That's spot on Pete, and the procedure is exactly as Chris has stated.
