Re: Smoking Thwaites

Thanks all, 1 last question, is there any simple investigations I can do to find the cause before spending money on injectors etc only to find its the rings or something else, I'm not sure the dumper is worth that much but I would dearly like to keep it. thanks Graham Our local man cleaned and rese...

I think the tandem pump is probably right. Our old Powertrain had the pedals for the extending hoe and a tandem pump and I believe this set could have been used for an external service.

One thing that will make our old Petter knock and smoke is when the oil is bang full, or possibly a little over, and it is pushed hard. I am convinced it picks up the oil some how.

Are you sure the torque convertor uses the same as the engine? I would have thought a dedicated ATF/convertor oil would be more the order of day. Hydraulic ought to be hydraulic and perhaps a UTTO in the gearbox. Is the gearbox and back axle all one for oil on the Leyland skid?

Wondering if you could separate the levers and start on one cylinder? Pete you would still be acting against the compression of one cylinder to start the engine and Norman says it hard to try and start with the use of both de-compression levers. I am sure that there is a technique used to start eng...
