When you move a spool and the engine stalls do get any attempt at movement from any of the rams? This symptom is not unlike when you inadvertently plug into the wrong combinations of external services on an ag tractor. So effectively you are pushing oil out to a ram but the other side of the ram is ...

The engine is sitting the wrong way round and the skip is the wrong shape for it to be a Johnson or a Fowell. Its a long time since I've seen one but I think it may be a Drayton :?: :?: If so I shoud think its from the 1950s and the Petters engine would be an AVA1 not the later PH1 :?: :?: Fred One...

Some of the Fowell dumpers seemed to have been an early form of pivot steer but with only the rear axle driven.

Is it possible that the spool valves are opposite ways around between the two machines i.e. the inlet and outlets? Instead of flow back to tank you are turning the pump into a motor?
