Re: French
I am suprised nobody picked up on the name of the scraper driver Bob Geldorf - I don't think he stayed around on the M23/25 very long before leaving to form the Boomtown Rats. He mentions that he had worked on the motoways operating a T23 in his book "Is That It"- I can remember saying goo...

Best steam tractor
Not sure whether "Dozers" is the right place for these images or not.
Took these about 10 years ago on a holiday to eastern USA - found this Best steam tractor at Furnace Creek Range in Death Valley California.

Aitkens Fornham Park Bury st Edmunds
Some of Doug Aitkens equipment - 1jpg is a pit next to the A11 just south of Mildenhall and 2jpg and 3jpg are mainly the dualling of the A11 from Thetford to the Attleborough bypass which I think was a May Gurney contract.

Aitkens Auction
Some of the fascinating equipment in Doug Aitkens yard at Fornham Park near Bury st Edmunds on the day of the auction. There was a Cat 657 in the yard but I cannot find this photo at present. Also there were the remains of a Vickers crawler - I can upload these if anyone is interested. Steve Wadding...

Wyatts yard at Snetterton - I think these date form the mid 80s but the Cat 631 had Phellan Plant on it so may be a later photo.

Re: French
I started work on the M62 and M621 in my late teens and was immediately fascinated by heavy earthmoving equipement, I particularly like scrapers, but had just left school so no money for a camera and film. It was lucky the site office at Rastrick (near Huddersfield) was on a direct bus route but in ...
