So have you checked that the hand brake linkage is not binding slightly. All 3 Thwaites dumpers that I have run tended to run a bit hot on the front brakes, particularly worse if stood with handbrake on. Have you used straight hydraulic oil in the axle? Well I did not know that Thwaites used a Hatz engine. Looking at the skip they are not really old? Perhaps the '90s?

Definitely have the top of anyway to have a look as these old dumper gear boxes are prone to water ingress when stood. Mostly from the gear lever socket I think.

On my little Thwaites the gearstick is cranked and points forwards thus it fouls the back of the bucket. Should it face the other way ie. backwards and how do I turn it round? Also i am trying to get grease into the wheel kingpins without success. The steering is free but hard work. All the other b...

I think the op has later type brakes (oil immersed discs).
