Re: JCB 3c II fuel in the oil - fuel pumps?
Hi gents, could someone please clarify if the 'increase in power ' after cleaning the hydraulic-oil filter could present as an apparent increase in engine power when travelling, or is it only an increase in digging power? I seem to be able to dig pretty well with my 1988 3CX but travel up even a sli...

....3cx and whilst it runs fine, it cranks for quite a while before it starts. This is only from a cold start. It starts easier when warm. . Have you checked the wiring to the pre-combustion heater on the top right hand side at the front of the engine? My 1988 has that wire present and I've never h...

Re: Still dramas with 1988 3CX - now engine oil pressures
yes Gecko. The stub axle bolt heads have torn the hub to bits. I surmise the wheel bearing(s?) failed first and the damage to just about everything else is a result of roller bearings being munched through the hub internals. The wheel bearing may have failed some time ago. I'll start the search for ...

Re: Still dramas with 1988 3CX - now engine oil pressures
^ That's the crack sir, but the real damage is at the 'back' of the hub where I'm pointing in the photo. We've almost got the hub off now. Back into it after I find a three legged puller to get the annulus out. It doesn't want to come off the spline. There's bits of roller bearing etc. all through t...

The swivel joints are OK. The hub is buggered. I guess the big bearing failed. We got the wheel and hub cover off today for a better look. It's not pretty. http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/images/userpix/72319_15DE32QJ5K2C31700108256.jpg http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/images/userpix/7231...

Re: Still dramas with 1988 3CX - now engine oil pressures
TBH I'm getting tired of this machine. We fixed the high engine oil pressure problem this morning by putting the spring out of the old oil pressure relief valve into the new valve. We now have 40psi at idle instead of 120psi. So... for only the second proper time since I imported this yellow maggot ...

You wouldn't be the first to mistakenly fill her up with Adblue or some other liquid that isn't diesel
I had a breakdown in the middle of a bumpy road in my 3CX.... which embarrassingly turn out to be the seat bouncing up and down which pulled up the engine stop lever

Re: Still dramas with 1988 3CX - now engine oil pressures
Sadly a borrowed oil pressure gauge shows exactly the same (very high) engine oil pressures as the original gauge. The sump will come off again. I also partly dismantled the old oil pressure relief valve and the spring seems fine. Perhaps it has a damaged seal on the piston as I couldn't get the pis...

Yes mate. We soaked the doughnut shaped clamps with penetrating oil and then beat them hard with a mallet. The impact loosened the rust bond and the side shift now works.

Re: Still dramas with 1988 3CX - now engine oil pressures
Here she is getting unloaded from the ship on Chatham Island in March 2023 after $5k of urgent portside work as they wouldn't let her onto the wharf due to massive hydraulic system oil leaks... but the blown head gasket, flogged out steering, seized side-shift, 100% of bulbs blown (including the das...
