Sorry Pete, think that may have been a typo - do you mean the 46? Thanks, Simon :D

Re: Massey Ferguson 40 backhoe - worth buying?

Hi again guys, another quick question please... Is there any advantage / disadvantage to using 46 or 32 grade hydraulic oil in my MF40? I believe the operator's manual specifies 32 grade (though not seen this for myself), but I have seen several posts suggesting 46 grade may be better for an older m...

Re: Massey Ferguson 40 backhoe - worth buying?

Well, I bought it...! It's a 3x3 manual, and mostly complete. Cab is very rusty, as are the mudguards, but the tractor itself and front loader seem in reasonable shape, and the engine sounds sweet. The only issue requiring immediate attention is the lower bearing in the kingpost, which seems to have...

Thanks Pete, some very useful info there. I think it's a manual but I'll double check.

Re: Hymac 370c dashboard switches

May be a silly question but have you tried RS or Mouser? They stock almost every type of switch and I'm sure you'd find a rocker switch the right size and shape.

Massey Ferguson 40 backhoe - worth buying?

I've been looking for a JCB 3Ciii for up to about 5k but not found anything particularly appealing yet - either already sold, or needing too much immediate repair work... I came across a 1979 Massey 40 which looks like it might do the job - can anyone offer an opinion as to whether these were a dece...

Re: Adding 4 in 1 bucket to a 3C - worth doing?

Thanks guys - really appreciate the advice. I'll keep my search to those with 4 in 1 buckets as it looks quite an involved job to add one! And yes, the price doesn't seem to change really. I'm not in a mad rush so I'll hold on and see what comes up.

Re: Adding 4 in 1 bucket to a 3C - worth doing?

Thanks John - and good to hear from you again (I've previously used up lots of your time asking questions about my Leyland 245 on the Leyland/Nuffield forum)!! I'll give them a call and see what they reckon - they're quite local to me which may not be a bad thing if I need bits and pieces that won't...

Adding 4 in 1 bucket to a 3C - worth doing?

Hi All, I am contemplating buying a 3C Mk2 or Mk3 and just wondered if anyone has ever added a 4 in 1 bucket to a 3C that didn't have one from the factory? I guess the bucket itself would be no trouble to fit to the loader arms (happy to be corrected here!) but presumably I'd need a 3rd hydraulic se...

Re: Wanted - JCB 3C or similar

Thanks MrF, I've got a Leyland 245 which is a great little machine, and I'm quite familiar now with a lot of the mechanics on it. I appreciate the advice (and also from essexpete) regarding the different variants of 3C. I had read somewhere that the torque converter models were best avoided as the t...
