Re: Front wheel steering dumper?

Thanks for that Jeremy. I'll have a go at that. And thanks Cobba. Those are the lines I have been thinking along. A suitable piece of steel pipe would be a great starting point. As a retired fabricator welder I know the difficulty of rolling steel plate without powered rollers and there is the snag ...

Re: Front wheel steering dumper?

Went to see Brian with his George Fowell dumper today. An hour away but well worth it to yak with another owner and one who knows all about it. Brian spotted that the ally gearbox pulley/brake drum is from the earlier "belt beside offside wheel" model and is larger diameter than the steel ...

Re: Front wheel steering dumper?

That looks very similar. We have the arm that reaches up to the pulley, but not what is on the end of it. Also ours does not have the 6 large holes in the back of the drum.

Re: Front wheel steering dumper?

Hi. Thanks for that. The ally gearbo pully is worn so much, presumably by the brake action, that a hole is developing. This is why we did not sort out a brake on the pulley. The GF is now up and running but has been very little used but your warning tallies exactly with how I have stuggled with gear...

Re: Front wheel steering dumper?

Handbrake on the GF is egaged by a hand operated sprag engaging with a ratchet which hold the brake pedal dow and brake on. Crude but it works.

Re: Front wheel steering dumper?

I thought I had replied to this but it has not appeared. The brake on the gearbox pully seems to be a transmission brake but we decided to see if leaving it off was a viable option for the kind of use it will get. The reason for this is that the aluminium pulley has worn very thin and there being no...

Re: Front wheel steering dumper?

Its been a while. But its nearly there. Nearly running. I got a drive belt fitted on Sunday and we thought it was ready to run. But as I'm still a bit clueless on deisels (though not as bad as I was) the fuel pump side of things needed re fettling, but its back together now and maybe tomorrow it wil...

Re: Dumper bucket holes

Well the wheels we got were not much better than the pair we already had ! Rusty holes but not conveniently place at the edge of the rim. So one was sacrificed to provide sound portions to patch the bad bits of our original pair. When I say "patched" I mean a very thorough job. A full pene...

Re: Dumper bucket holes

There's no rush now that I know a pair of wheels can be got and there's plenty other stuff to get on with in the mean time. I've no objection to doing the miles but as I do not own a car and ride a motorbike (though it amazes some people what you can lash onto a bike) I think 2 steel wheels with tyr...

Re: Dumper bucket holes

Couldn't contact the guy with the pair of wheels on Facebook. Maybe they were already sold. However a friend at the pumping station museum, where our dumper is, has located a suitable pair, with usable tyres. But they are "Buyer collects" and 200 miles away. Enter another pumping station b...
